Weddings
At St. John’s we aim to help you have the best possible wedding day. We plan the service with you and ensure it "feels right" as well as being legally correct! We believe that God values marriage very highly and we take the privilege of being involved in weddings very seriously. As well as going through the words of the service we are very happy to discuss "what makes a marriage work" if this would be helpful.
Marriages can take place on any day, although most still do happen on a Saturday. It is worth booking the date as soon as possible as diaries can get booked up. We have to cover various legal fees but we do try and keep costs to a minimum. In 2008 the cost is £322.50, including the cost of an organist.
Baptism
In Baptism we remember that God invites us to be part of his family. The water that is used is a sign of his cleansing and refreshing love. We are delighted when a person (of any age) wishes to discuss baptism (or "Christening"), for themselves or for a child. Baptism is a wonderfully joyful and solemn affair; it is a big step and we encourage people to consider carefully the promises, for themselves or for their children, that they will be making to follow Jesus.
Baptisms often happen in the 10:30am services but sometimes it is better for the person or family if the baptism is another time. We are happy to discuss timing and wording of the service to ensure that it is right for you.
Confirmation
"God has called you by name and made you his own."
A time of re-commitment and prayer.
Confirmation is an opportunity to say publicly that you have responded to the invitation given in Baptism, that the Christian
journey is the path that you want to be on; that the Church of England is your particular group of fellow travellers at the
moment. A Bishop prays that God’s Holy Spirit will strengthen you for all that lies ahead.
Confirmations happen in Canterbury Cathedral, St.John’s or a neighbouring church
